The Active Lifestyle Program

This program encourages youth and adults to make staying active part of their everyday lives.

Based on research findings
The rules of the program are simple. Participants must meet a daily activity goal (30 minutes a day for adults/60 minutes a day for youth under 18) at least 5 days a week, for a total of 6 weeks. There's also an option for using a pedometer to record daily activity.

Making fitness fun
The Active Lifestyle program lets participants choose all kinds of activities they like doing - whether it's at school or at home, alone or with friends and family.

Challenging but never out of reach
Anyone can receive this award if they try - it doesn't depend on a set level of skill or fitness. We'll also give you guidelines for helping students set personal goals.

Easy to begin
Starting a program at your school is simple. You can also download an activity log form [PDF] so students can log activities right away.

Active Lifestyle Model School
If at least 35% of your students earn a Presidential Active Lifestyle Award two or more times during the school year, your school can be recognized as an Active Lifestyle Model School
