Athletic Republic's primary clientele are student athletes aged 8-18, but it
is their classmates who we hope to inspire through our support of the
National President's Challenge. Typically, we train athletes to improve
their movement skills, specifically speed, power and agility, through
performance sports training programs we've developed based on years of
research into how the body responds to particular stresses. And, over the
course of our 17-year history, we've helped develop the full potential of
over 500,000 athletes. Our goal for the 2008 Challenge is to inspire the
students in Athletic Republic's group to log 500,000 minutes of physical
activity per week throughout the National President's Challenge. That would
equal 3 million minutes, or 50,000 hours of logged activity over the
six-week Challenge. To learn more about Athletic Republic, please visit

Energy Friends™ has been developed to instruct young children (3-6 yrs) on the importance of maintaining physical fitness and making healthy lifestyle choices. That alone is a great goal, but our main focus is to teach kids that these things can be achieved while having fun. Unfortunately obesity and childhood diabetes have reached an all-time high. These kinds of problems won't fix themselves, but they can be prevented.
Studies show that participating in an active lifestyle and learning essential skills, such as healthy eating, can significantly extend the life of an individual. Energy Friends™ is designed to teach some of these important fundamental lessons. The faster a child can learn a routine and work that routine into their lifestyle, the better. At Energy Friends™ our goal is to empower children by teaching them how to make positive, healthy choices so they feel good both physically and mentally.
Energy Friends is a 40 minute interactive program that will empower children as young as 3-yrs-old to stay active, try new and healthy foods, and understand the importance of moderation and balance. After exercising and dancing with the program or music CD, we encourage you to become an “Energy Friend” by logging onto
http://www.presidentschallenge.org/ and posting your activity online (Sign on under Energy Friends Group # 60273)
Remember what the Energy Friends say, “Anything that gets you moving is exercise!” So get moving and log your success so we know how well you’re doing!

The Home Depot Building Better Health Worksite Wellness Program is utilizing the President's Challenge Awards Program as one way of demonstrating a core company value: to take care of its associates. Home Depot also takes great pleasure in supporting an effort championed by President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports President's Council member; 2000 Olympic gold medallist; and Home Depot associate, Derek Parra. Building Better Health's goal is to make every associate aware of the Challenge and lead them to a more active and healthy lifestyle to look and feel their best. Each site's Wellness Representative has been instructed to mark off a mile long strip in or around the store and promote it as the "Home Depot Gold Medal Mile." Associates are encouraged to walk the mile to "warm up to work" and track it on their Challenge log sheet. Having a "Home Depot Gold Medal Mile" is one of the requirements for a location to be recognized internally as a "Gold Medal Worksite." Building Better Health encourages all associates to increase their physical activity by promoting the program in activity kits, the intranet, on TV slides in all Home Depot stores, and in the company wide newspaper, "Doings at the Depot." In 2004 approximately 24,000 Home Depot employes received Presidential recognition through this program.

The "Fitness Runs in the Family" program was created to encourage Americans to take the President's Challenge and work towards the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA). With 64% of Americans considered overweight or obese, this program offered exciting fitness alternatives to current sedentary routines many American families find themselves in. On the final day, those individuals that have finished the six week challenge could simply print out a copy of their activity log and take it to their Bally Total Fitness Center to receive their certificate of completion for the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA).
During the six-week period of "Family Fitness Days", parents and children were able to work out for free during the week with fitness professionals on hand to offer assistance. Classes for children 8 years and older were available on weekends to create a fun and active experience for kids. Hip-hop dance and boot camp classes were held each weekend to offer kids a high energy workout that was not only more intense than a gym class, but also more exciting. They heard their favorite music and learned new dance moves and exercises that kept them moving to the beat and got them off the couch when they returned home.

Wheaties collaborated with the President's Challenge to recognize the State Champion schools for the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 school years. Schools that received State Champion status received a State Champion Physical Fitness prize kit containing a large banner to hang in the school and a variety of athletic equipment. In addition, these State Champion schools were eligible to make a poster showing how the students of that school achieved State Champion status. The artwork was used as the backdrop for a school banner sent to the 2003-2004 State Champions. Three schools' posters, one representing each of the State Champion categories, was selected as a winner and received $5,000 grants to go towards the physical education departments of each school.
